Say hello to Fernando, known as Fer, to those he holds close. Fer is the kind of little man everyone loves; energetic, but obedient, sensitive, but not a pushover, passionate but not bossy. The kind that strives for goodness and loves the Lord in spite of his circumstances.
Fernando has been a participant in PAP preschool and Paso A Paso is supporting his schooling right now. And oh, how this little boy strives to please, scores 90-100 on most tests! But he needs his own sponsor to continue his education.
Nothing is free, or a “right” in Guatemala, not school, not food, not shelter….. and certainly not opportunity. His heart is so pure and full of hope.
Fernando’s parents are separated, he has little sister, Faby, whom he loves very much. His mother is loving and very brave, but so desperately lonely. His father works far away in the city hoping to earn a better life for them, he tries to visit once a month.
It’s funny that Fernando is considered a success story for one so young. Poverty often steals innocence quite early but Fer seems to be light in the dark, but he desperately needs help. Sponsorship to these kids isn’t just a check in the mail.. without ever meeting them you become family, in their mind and heart… because it means some one cares… that they matter…. they are not forgotten.
